About
Julie Johnston
Julie Johnston got her first
single lens reflex camera in May 1980 and a shot from her first
roll of film found its way onto the front page of the Fairfield
(Iowa) Ledger. That fall the newspaper's editor asked her to shoot
football. Without any formal photographic training, Johnston
accepted the assignment and, with the help of a staff
photographer, began the career that has unleashed her creativity
and has earned her acclaim and national recognition.
In 2002, Julie
was accepted at the Santa Fe Workshop under the instruction of
nationally known nature photographer Eddie Soloway. The following
year she attended an advanced workshop in Big Sur, California and
a Maine photographic experience with Soloway.
Johnston has been
recognized by the Iowa Newspaper Association and the Associated
Press. She lives on a
Jefferson County (Iowa) farm and continues to serve as staff
photographer for the Fairfield Ledger. Julie accepts
field assignments and commissioned work.
